NIT South, Phase II, Stage II

NIT South, Phase II, Stage II – Norfolk, Virginia

NIT Backlands Reconstruction was a multi-year, multi-phase project to upgrade the land use of Virginia’s largest port.  The scope of the project was to rebuild the north container yard which would allow the port to function, store and transport containers more efficiently.

Heard began the initial phase of this project in 2005 and completed it in 2010 with all contracts and change orders completed on time and on budget.  Heard Concrete’s scope of work included placing over 12,300 cubic yards of heavy duty concrete paving, trench drains, drop-inlets and high mast light pole protection. Heard Concrete simultaneously completed other projects at the port including the new North – South Shuttle route for the Strad Carriers and also the Central Rail Yard which is used for train car transfers.  The combination of projects totaled over 100,000 cubic yards of concrete paving! All of these projects were heavy duty reinforced concrete paving designs.

The logistics of working around heavy port traffic and demanding client schedules were daily challenges; yet all were met and with a perfect safety record.

Excellent Subcontractor – has qualified personnel both in the field and in the office. Quality driven and very responsive to schedule and work area adjustments…” Dennis Miller, VP EV Williams
